'Hokusai' Cherry in Autumn

75 x 140 | Hansarashi Kozo and Acrylic paint
A 'Hokusai' cherry tree painted in Autumn in Kew Gardens, London. Each leaf is a subtle mix of colour ranging from translucent jade green and earthy green ochre through to warm spicy tones of tumeric and cinnamon. Bursts of bright orange turning to burnt orange, warm alizarin red and blushing umber.

I used an exquisite piece of handmade Hansarashi Kozo paper for this banner. The finely woven bamboo 'Su' or papermakers frame has made a beautiful imprint on the paper. The edges are deckled and the fibres are unbleached - a soft natural colour that gently reflects the light.

This 75cm x 140cm piece can be rolled and fitted into a sturdy customised cardboard tube ideal for posting worldwide. I have attached a simple wooden batten and transparent thread for instant hanging.
