Spring Purple Beech

74 x 140 | Handmade Seichosen paper with dilute acrylic paint
I submerged myself under a canopy of new beech leaves for this banner. A gentle breeze and a flutter of leaves shook a few rain drops onto this painting solving my problem of how to include the pale feathery beech flowers. I love calligraphic techniques that give a sense of the elements. Wind, rain, temperature all play a role in these pieces made outside.

This banner is painted on handmade Seichosen paper from Japan which is unbleached and has a soft natural colour. The paper has a unique and subtle texture of kozo fibres along with the watermarks of the paper makers Su or frame.

The piece is suspended from a simple batten and clear thread which can be removed on request if an alternative method of display is desired.
