74 x 140 | Handmade Seichosen paper with dilute acrylic paint
This exuberant tree was a flamboyant autumn entertainer in Kew gardens this year. I loved the brilliant colours from magenta to orange and the rhythmic symmetric leaflets on leaves arranged like unruly feathers. Sorbus Ulleungensis is native to an island off South Korea.
Painted with a long bristled handmade brush and watery paint this piece is a combination of clarity and confusion, restraint and abandon. The unsized handmade Seichosen paper compliments this approach allowing for both sharp lines and free mingling colour.
Simply suspended by a wooden batten and clear synthetic thread.
Sorbus Ulleungensis listed in:
Acer 'Bloodgood' 2020
