Painted with the largest of my calligraphy brush after time spent carefully observing Magnolia Cylindrica in Kew Gardens. The resulting 'flag' is the essence of my response to these magnificent plants. These magnolias send out their star shaped sculptural flowers into the sky before leaves appear at a time when the weather is unpredictable and potentially hazardous to them.
