This little Acer was given to me when my daughter was born, it is no surprise that red is her favourite colour! Every year as the days grow darker the vibrant crimson, alizarin and ruby reds energise and revitalise me. I am always spellbound by the intensity of the colours that are revealed as the chlorophyl is withdrawn, that such deep rich reds could have been hidden behind the green. I also love the variety of pink and berry shades that are created by light reflected off the leaves.

Painted on a large, thick piece of handmade Yuumashi paper from the Awagami paper factory in Japan this banner measures 1m x 2m. This paper holds the sharp detail of each brush stroke as well as the intensity of colours.

I have attached a simple wooden batten and clear thread to the top of the piece for immediate simple hanging. This batten can be removed upon request if you would like to frame the piece formally. The paper could be mounted onto a firm substrate with paste and used with 'fusuma' or traditional sliding door as inspiration.
