Red Acer

Red Acer

76 x 140 cm | Pigments on handmade Mitsumata Paper
Red Acer is an imaginary journey to a Japanese temple garden. Although the tree grows in a pot on our London terrace it transports me to the quiet atmosphere of a Japanese temple garden viewing room with tatami mats, wooden platforms and paper sliding doors. In this harmonious environment the vivid red of the Acer leaves are a focal point for contemplation and enjoyment.

Years of refining brush techniques through Shodo - Japanese calligraphy alongside a consistent yoga practice have culminated in my technique which uses breathing, focus and the unselfconscious placement of the brush on the paper.

The pigments I mixed for this piece are: Quinacridone Red, Pompeii Red, Chrome Yellow Middle, Quinacridone Magenta, and Cadmium Red Deep.

These banners embody the principles of biophilic design, making them an ideal addition to spaces seeking a harmonious fusion of art and nature.

The Mitsumata paper, stretched and fixed to a simple wooden batten with bookbinder's paste, ensures effortless hanging. If you prefer, the batten can be easily removed prior to purchase, accommodating alternative hanging methods. Delivered in a roll, these banners are easily stored or shipped.
